Origins of the Microtek Hot Lunch Program (HLP)

During the 2006/2007 school year, Microtek began discussions with a school regarding their hot lunch program. We recognized the huge number of volunteer hours needed to organize hot lunches and the increasing difficulty in finding parent volunteers. Numerous issues consistently arose, including: frequently changing hot lunch coordinators, mistakes from manual forms and spreadsheets, and parental errors (including wrong cheque totals, confusion of dates, etc.). These consistent issues led to the creation of the Microtek HLP.

Version 1 of our HLP online website software ran successfully during the 2007/2008 school year with 3 order cycles that included over 400 students per cycle.

From the successful debut, many enhancements have been made, including a complete rewrite for Version 2. Since this initial run, several other schools have subscribed to our service based on positive word-of-mouth reviews.

Microtek has created this website to better inform schools of a service that has received great feedback, saved hours of frustration, and increased efficiency in school hot lunch programs.
